Peanut Monaka
October 10th is "Peanut Monaka Day"!
October 10th is "Peanut Monaka Day"!
The reason for this is that the season for peanuts, the raw material, is autumn, and sales of "Peanut Monaka" began in October 1998.
October 10th is likened to 18, and "1018" resembles the shape of a mochi with bean paste sandwiched between the seed (skin), and "101" resembles the shape of a peanut!
May October 10th be a day filled with smiles!
We will also be running a Twitter campaign in honor of Peanut Monaka Day!
More details will be announced at a later date. Stay tuned!
The story of the birth of Peanut Monaka
In November 7, a large drive-in store called "YONEYA Tourist Center" opened in Narita City.
Initially, the main attraction was a live demonstration and sale of dorayaki, but one year later, the tourist center began selling original products such as peanut-shaped monaka, a specialty of Chiba. The product was called "Peanut Monaka" at the time, and it consisted of smooth bean paste with two sweet peanuts inside. In 10, efforts began to be made to sell Peanut Monaka on a full scale as a Chiba souvenir, which had previously only been sold through demonstration demonstrations at tourist centers.
Research began on how to make the flavor more "peanut-like," and after dozens of trial and error attempts, they tried adding roasted peanuts and peanut oil to get the right flavor, creating a peanut firmness that was smooth like a monaka and a color that resembled the thin peanut skin, and finally came up with something they were satisfied with, naming it "Peanut Monaka" and going on sale.
In addition, with the idea of "not being limited to the framework of Japanese sweets, but wanting to create a product that is familiar and loved by more customers," we created the adorable Peanuts character "Pee-chan" and incorporated it into the packaging.
The box that the Peanut Monaka are packed in also has a cute peanut-shaped, pop design.
