Our founding product: Chestnut Yokan
Inspired by the vegetarian dish "Kurikan" from Naritasan Shinshoji Temple The original dish invented by our founder, Chozo Morooka
The YONEYA was founded in 1899.
Originally a rice store in the temple town of Naritasan, the company's founder, Chozo Morooka, was inspired by the chestnut jelly, which is said to be the prototype of the kurimushi yokan sweet served in the vegetarian cuisine of Naritasan Shinshoji Temple, and created and sold Japan's first chestnut yokan, made with locally harvested chestnuts, as a souvenir for visitors to Naritasan.
Since then, we have inherited the spirit of our founding and created traditional flavors using skilled techniques.
"Chestnut Yokan" continues to be a beloved souvenir from visits to Naritasan.
